In my Social Media class earlier this week, we learnt that Pinterest users spend more money more often then Facebook and Twitter users. I found this extremely interesting and did some further research of my own.
The first thing I found out, to no surprise, that 79% of Pinterest users are women. Which helps to start to explain the excessive spending.Second was that 80% of the top categories on Pinterest are connected to commerce. These are things such as jewelry, apparel, home furnishing and makeup. Also the stores most frequently pinned Barneys New York, Nordstrom, Victoria Secret and Sephora. This spending is all starting to make more sense now…
So how much do Pinterest users spend? Well when they follow through on purchases they spend more money then users on any other social network. On average, Pinterest users spend $179. While Facebook users spend $80 and Twitter users spend $68.
That is a huge difference in spending that cannot be ignored. Pinterest is a easy to use platform that could be a great addition to your business if used properly. If you have a great image to help promote your content, Pinterest is a great platform to get shares and spread your product/service. Also Pinterest is a innovator in how easy they have made it to purchase products right from the website.
Do you think Pinterest is in the direction to be biggest network for e-commerce?
